This particular shawl is a very easy lace pattern that looks more complicated than it is. It's worked in a sportweight merino wool. The width and length are up to the knitter to decide — just knit a gauge swatch first. I used size 6 needles. This is a multiple of six stitches plus three stitches on either side of the shawl. You can cast a multiple of six stitches accordingly, then add six stitches for the border.
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2: k3, p to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 3: k3, *(k2tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (k2tog) 3 times. Repeat from * to last 3 sts; k3.
Row 4: Knit.
